HISTORY
SINCE OCTOBER 2010
JoyaBrava is a non-profit trade union association that gathers more than 30 contemporary Chilean jewellers, who work the jewellery as a means of artistic expression, investigating and experimenting with materials, concepts and processes. The purpose of this Association is to group the contemporary jewellers of our country to encourage and foster the growing development of Chilean contemporary jewellery, as well as to insert this art, in the Chilean and foreign cultural sphere.
THE LAUNCH
One month after the foundation of JoyaBrava, its launch was organized at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Approximately 150 people attended and Ruudt Peters, dutch´ artist and jeweller, was invited and show himself surprised by the number of partners that this young association had gathered. An ephemeral and rupturist assembly of cardboard boxes grouped in two rows in the central part of the great exhibition hall, delighted the visitors. In them an emblematic work of each partner of JoyaBrava was exhibited.
THE NAME
The name of the Association emerged in honor of the "cueca brava". Not necessarily because their developers are cuequeras, but rather because the Jewellery in Chile has undergone a transformation similar to that of the national dance. That is, it has experimented a strong renovation, in contrast to traditional jewellery. It has taken new spaces, integrating creators of other disciplines such as designers, architects, sociologists, artists and theorists.
