Almendra Ignacia Baus Rusiñol

Santiago, Chile.

Almendra Baus Rusiñol is a Chilean artist who recently graduated from the National Academy of the Arts in Oslo, where she completed a Master's in Art based on Media and Materials, specializing in Metals and Jewelry Art. She previously studied Industrial Design at Diego Portales University in Santiago, Chile, where, after graduating with a contemporary jewelry project, she began specializing in different jewelry techniques through workshops with national and international artists. Her passion for the craft was further developed personally in her studio in Santiago, where she created her own jewelry design brand, ALBA. Eager to continue her artistic career in search of greater creative freedom beyond the boundaries of design, new questions arose, leading her to continue her studies in Norway for a period of two years. Baus's artistic practice focuses on contemporary jewelry and sculpture, establishing a direct or indirect narrative connection with the human body. The techniques and materials vary depending on the ideas she wants to convey. She uses materials such as metals, plastics, plaster, textiles, and ceramics.

Statement:

Almendra Baus is an artist who explores territory, identity, and the relationship between the body and the land. She is interested in the malleability of the body and its capacity for transformation. Starting with her own body as a Latin American woman with Spanish roots, she broadens her focus to the collective, drawing from family stories of migration. Where does my body begin, and where does it end? Baus is inspired by nature, finding beauty in materials and textures, and is particularly intrigued by the connection between the body and water, resonating with ideas of posthuman feminist phenomenology. Nature, sound, silence, and material states serve as constant inspiration for her work.
